Cultural Heritage Month Information
-
In the spring of 2021, a district committee was formed to develop lesson plans and provide ideas to support and celebrate our students so they can better understand the world.
The Student Learning and Development Department is thrilled to celebrate our community and nationwide through the D300 Cultural Heritage Month series. This initiative encompasses Community Events, which are optional school-based and classroom-based activities. These events are selected based on the needs and interests of the District 300 community and the selection criteria detailed below.
Presidential proclamations signal the beginning of a Cultural Heritage Month and those months that we will acknowledge (we include Polish American Heritage Month due to the large Polish population that has lived in our community in the past). Months designate heritage months, influencing the announcement of district-level events. While numerous days and weeks are commemorated throughout the year via presidential proclamations, the District 300 Student Learning and Development Department prioritizes Cultural Heritage Month proclamations due to the time and effort invested in creating and hosting events.
