Amigos

Our Spanish class introduces the Spanish language to beginning students from K-5th grade. During the 45 -60 minute class and throughout the session, students will learn numbers, the alphabet, parts of speech, expressions, days and months, colors, food, animals, clothes, parts of the body, as well as family and community words in Spanish. During each class, the students will also play games and sing songs. This is an opportunity for students to have fun learning a very useful language.
Chess Scholars

Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity.
Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach.

The GDW Choir is an after-school club open to Gary D. Wright Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students. The choir performs in several concerts throughout the school year.
Elementary Drawing Class

Young Rembrandts’ elementary drawing program teaches children to deconstruct complex objects into foundational shapes. This approach helps them increase their mastery in drawing, which can also translate to improved life skills. Through engaging and relevant subject matter and repetition, children learn to reconstruct images with confidence.

Scratch Superstars – Your child will have a blast designing video games and animations in this exciting STEM program. Our innovative approach to coding is sure to spark your child’s interest in computer science, using a kid-friendly, intuitive, block-based programming system called Scratch, developed by the MIT Media Lab. The fun filled curriculum hones important skills related to problem solving, attention to detail, creativity, storytelling and critical thinking. Class topics include conditional statements, cloning, variables, loops, control structure, object-oriented design concepts and data structures.
MUSICSTART: Piano/Keyboarding (K-4th Grade)

Help your child get a jump on playing an instrument! This class will focus on teaching the basics of reading music and identifying notes. Students will learn through a specialized web-based program and teacher instruction. This class is a great tool for students who are interested in playing a musical instrument.

In this art class, each week students will draw new images, learn new vocabulary, and have fun discovering art and the Power of Drawing!
