Principal Thomas Ruzinok
  • Dear Gilberts Elementary School Families,

I am very excited to serve you as Principal of Gilberts Elementary School. As a graduate of District 300 I look forward to working with the students, families and staff that make up our great school community.

I started my educational career as a graduate from Augustana College with a degree in Music Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership from St. Francis University. My first two years in education were spent as a Band Director and Computer Teacher for Ira Jones Middle School in Plainfield, IL. I then became the 5th grade General Music Teacher and High School Band Director for Coal City School District. During my time as the Band Director, I had the privilege of performing the duty of Fine Arts Department Chair, focusing on the instruction and curriculum of our Fine Arts for grades K-12.

For three years I was honored to be the Assistant Principal for Coal City Middle School. During this time I also served as the Music Booster Liaison, Title I Director, and Assistant Athletic Director. I strongly believe that my educational background and experiences have helped in developing who I am today and will help guide all decisions for our students.

For five years, I had the privilege of serving as the Principal of Westfield Community School. During my time at Westfield I focused on student learning, achievement school/ community relations and making critical operational updates to Westfield.

I am excited to continue to work with all of the Gilberts students, parents, and staff to provide the best possible educational environment. My leadership foundation is based on servant leadership, always focusing on the students’ education and well-being. I know that together we can bring the best to our school community.

My goal as Principal is to empower and equip each student to reach their highest potential in their chosen pathway. I truly believe that the district mission is one that can be implemented fully through the contributions of our amazing staff, curriculum, technology, and community/ parental involvement.

I am looking forward to meeting our new families and seeing all of the returning families as we begin this 2024-2025 school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.

    Go Grizzly’s!!!

    Educationally yours,

    Tom Ruzinok
