School Athletic Philosophy Statement
The athletic program at Dundee Middle School mirrors the school’s mission to prepare students through the education of the mind and body. Our diverse athletic programs provide for the development of life and leadership skills. Physical and mental challenges in a team dynamic create resiliency, responsibility, and a commitment to others. All athletics abide by the concept that the word "student" comes before "athlete." The pursuit of academic excellence along with athletic performance is our goal.

Prior to tryouts, athletes must complete an "IHSA PreParticipation Physical Evaluation." This process includes submitting a related form that must be signed by a doctor or medical group. In addition, athletes must complete the school's digital "Athletic Registration" form. Please complete both forms, which are linked below, and be sure to submit a copy of the IHSA form to the main office.

You will need to make an appointment with a doctor to complete this form. Forms are good for 13 months. Sixth graders will NOT need to get a sports physical because the physical they receive prior to coming into DMS will be accepted for participation in sports. Local doctors' offices may also have these forms available.

Boys Basketball
Seventh grade boys coach: Gaspar Ponte – gaspar.ponte@d300.org
Eighth grade boys coach: Zack Schamrowski – zackery.schamrowski@d300.org
Boys basketball begins with tryouts in mid-October and is open to any seventh or eighth grade boy. Fifteen to 18 boys will be selected for each grade-level squad. This interscholastic sport concludes its season in December.
DMS boys basketball at the eighth grade level is responsible for the training and growth of young men in preparation of high school basketball. In a competitive setting, we work on intermediate basketball skills, mental skills training, and character building through vigorous drill work, pre- and post-competition planning, and handling winning/losing/schoolwork as responsible adolescents. The season begins with tryouts in mid-October and is open to any eighth grade boy. Approximately 15 to 18 boys will be selected to make the team (tryouts usually have about 40 participants). Practices can be before or after school for about two hours, with two or three games each week. Competitions include "A" and "B" games that each last about an hour, where the "A "game is for the higher skilled athletes, and the "B" game is for developing athletes. This interscholastic sport concludes its season with a district tournament in December.
Cheerleading
Coach: Lauren Wagenaar – lauren.wagenaar@d300.org
Cheerleaders at DMS help promote interscholastic team sports, school spirit, and good sportsmanship. After a number of clinics held in October, a panel of judges chooses a seventh grade squad and an eighth grade squad. Cheerleaders participate at home boys basketball games and school pep assemblies from mid-October to December. The season culminates with the D300 Cheer Competition at Carpentersville Middle School.
Dance/Poms
Coach: Tiffany Rice – tiffany.rice@d300.org
Dance is open to seventh and eighth grade students and runs during the boys basketball season. The dance squad at DMS helps promote interscholastic team sports, school spirit, and good sportsmanship through choreographed dance routines. After an "interest meeting" near the end of September, tryouts are held in October, and a dance squad is chosen. The dance squad practices two to four days per week, and it performs at all home boys basketball games from mid-October to December. The season culminates with the D300 Dance Competition in December (all girls are required to attend the competition).
