August 23 is an Early Release Day

Friday, August 23 is an early release day.

On an early release day:  

  • all elementary schools will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

  • all middle schools will run from 8:55 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.

  • all high schools will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:43 p.m.
    (Please note: Preschool students do not attend school on August 23rd)

The District 300 calendar for the 2019-2020 school year includes 10 early release days. All District 300 elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools will observe early releases on the same dates:

  • Friday, August 23, 2019

  • Friday, September 20, 2019

  • Friday, October 25, 2019

  • Friday, November 22, 2019

  • Friday, December 13, 2019

  • Friday, January 17, 2020

  • Friday, February 14, 2020

  • Friday, March 13, 2020

  • Friday, April 17, 2020

  • Friday, May 8, 2020

For Elementary Schools:

On early release days, all elementary schools will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

All elementary students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. with the exception of students who are scheduled to stay for an after-school program (such as the Boys and Girls Club, Circle of Friends, Park District programs, and the YMCA). Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (bus, pick-up, walk, etc.).

For Middle Schools:

On early release days, all middle schools will run from 8:55 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.

All middle school students will be required to leave campus at 1:25 p.m. Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (bus, pick-up, walk, etc.).

Extra-curricular activities may be held in the morning of a scheduled early release day. Your child’s coach/sponsor will communicate if students are practicing or meeting the morning of early release days. 

In most circumstances, middle schools will not hold any after school extra-curricular activities on early release days. This includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Interscholastic athletic competitions

  • Athletic practices

  • Intramural practices

  • Clubs and activities

  • Music rehearsals

Please note: Musical performances may be held in the afternoon or evening on an early release day. In these circumstances, your child’s director will contact you in advance of the early release day with scheduling information.

For High Schools:

On early release days, all high schools will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:43 p.m. Students will be required to leave campus at 12:43 p.m. Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (bus, drive, pick-up, walk, etc.).

The following guidelines for activities/athletics will be implemented on early release days:

  • Club meetings/activities may be held in the morning on an early release day prior to the start of the official school day. There will not be afternoon club meetings/activities on early release days unless there is an academic competition.

  • Athletic practices may be held in the morning on an early release day prior to the start of the official school day.

  • High school afternoon athletic practices may start following 3:00 p.m. on early release days.

  • Only in-season athletes who have a scheduled practice or competition are allowed to stay following early release dismissal time.  Students will be placed in the high school main commons area/lunch area during the early release time to complete homework or study.

  • Musical performances may be held in the afternoon or evening on an early release day. In these circumstances, your child’s director will contact you in advance of the early release day with scheduling information. 

Your child’s coach/sponsor will communicate expectations for students prior to these early release days.
