Weather Update: The Status of After-School Events and Activities for February 5th
District 300 is closely monitoring our local weather forecast. The current forecast predicts our community will be impacted by an ice storm this evening (between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.) that will continue through the early morning hours (4 a.m. to 6 a.m.) and cause a quarter of an inch to a half inch of ice accumulation.
In the interest of student and staff safety, the following decisions have been implemented for after-school events and activities on Tuesday, February 5th:
All middle school athletic games and competitions are canceled
All high school games and competitions are canceled
High school scholastic bowl is cancelled
High school and middle school practices and activities scheduled to start after school may begin as planned, but must conclude by 5:30 p.m.
Elementary after-school childcare will run as normal
I would also like to provide parents with information regarding the status of school on Wednesday, February 6th. While our contractor is prepared to address icing at all school locations, I do have some concerns regarding local road conditions during the morning commute. Also, District 300 has concerns about potential power outages depending on the severity of the ice accumulation, As such, District 300 is exploring the possibility of implementing a late start on February 6th.
Please note that I have not made an official decision regarding the status of school on February 6th. However, I would like parents to be aware that a delayed start is a possibility to provide you with as much planning time as possible.
I will communicate my official decision regarding the status of school on February 6th before 10 p.m. this evening.
