AVID

    • AVID is an Elective class offered at CMS for students who have the individual determination to prepare for college and career.  “AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.” Advancement Via Individual Determination. Student are recommended by teachers and apply to be in the AVID program.  Student must maintain 2.5 grade point average, satisfactory citizenship, and good attendance.   Students are enrolled in rigorous classes and are supported through the AVID elective class with tutors and instruction they need to be successful.  The AVID elective class is divided in three different target areas: two days a week they are working on curriculum support through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading; two days a week they meet in small groups and get tutorial support on specific class work; and the other day is working on motivational support (guest speakers, field trips, team building).  For more information go to www.avid.org
