• Westfield Community School Families,

Yesterday evening (January 21st), District 300 became aware of a threat of violence made via Instagram. An individual posted a threat in the comment section of a Westfield student’s Instagram Live video stream as the broadcast was set to public and available beyond a closed group.

Algonquin Police contacted Instagram and determined the threat was made from an account and phone number based out of Texas. At this time, we believe there is no credible threat to Westfield Community School or any District 300 school. However, as an additional precaution and to help allay any concerns, we have asked the Algonquin Police Department to have additional law enforcement units in the vicinity throughout the day.

We are uncertain as to how many students know about the threat made via Instagram. I am certain that students will be discussing this today and I wanted to ensure that you had the background information.

District 300  takes all such threats seriously and we will continue to work with law enforcement to pursue legal charges against the individual who posted the threat. We have also asked Instagram to delete or suspend the account associated with the threat.

Please feel free to contact Principal Tom Ruzniok at Thomas.Ruzinok@d300.org or Mr. Todd Rohlwing, District 300’s Director of Student Safety, at Todd.Rohlwing@d300.org, should you have any additional questions or concerns.

      Thank you.

      Sincerely,

      Fred Heid

      Superintendent
