• Dear District 300 Parents,

I’d like to take an opportunity to dispel concerns regarding a rumored threat involving Jacobs High School.

Rumors have recently cycled through social media claiming a student has threatened an act of violence.

I want to assure all students, staff, parents, and community members that District 300 takes all such reports seriously and we have thoroughly investigated every claim with law enforcement, district administrators, and school administrators.

With any rumor of potential violence, the school and the District work quickly to investigate and address the matter. Our procedures require us to work with law enforcement to conduct a home safety check to determine if a threat is credible. The district also works with local agencies to conduct a mandatory threat assessment prior to allowing a student to return to school. Finally, students who make threats are also subject to criminal charges and disciplinary action, including expulsion.

I want to reassure you that the current allegations surrounding Jacobs High School are believed to be false.

District 300 has taken, and will continue taking, every possible step to address each concern or rumor as they arise. Finally, even

though the threat is believed to be false, we will maintain a heightened sense of security at the school.

Please contact me with any questions you may have.

    Sincerely,

    Fred Heid

    Superintendent
