In reading, we will focus on making connections. We are learning about 3 different kinds of connections- text to self (T-S), text to text (T-T), and text to world (T-W).Making connections is an important strategy for reading comprehension. It involves making associations and interacting with what is read. Good readers do more than read words, they think about what they are reading. For word work this week, we will focus, again, on short and long u words. However, the workds will be more complex this week than they were last time we talked about the vowel. Please make sure you are completeing the word sorts outlined in the homework each day of the week. Remember, the words are not meant to be memorized, but are meant to be interacted with.

In writing, we will use the story "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" to add more detail to the stories we write.If you would like to read the books we are reading in class for writing, they are available at the Algonquin Library, you can search for them using this link: http://www.dundeelibrary.info/dundee/index.asp

In science we will wrap up our studies of light and heat and we will begin to explore sound. We will discuss vocabulary like frequency and pitch. We will also learn a little about how the ear helps us hear!We are going to begin learning about sound energy this week. In math, we will begin to focus on place value. We will review hundreds, tens, and ones using place value blocks. We are working, continuously to identify numbers in their different forms, written (thirty-four), standard (34), and expanded (30 +4).Math can be made fun by playing games.
