Welcome Back!
2012 brings some exciting new learning in second grade! We have several fun and engaging projects that we will be doing for the last part of the school year. We will be doing a Flat Stanley project in which we will mail our flattened selves to a family member or friend to visit. We will also be doing dinosaur reports. In writing we will study several genres of writing including poetry, letter writing, and non-fiction (expository) writing. We will cover units in science such as animals, habitats, and health. I am looking forward to everything that we will learn and explore for the rest of second grade!
January Reading Calendars
Please remember to encourage your child to read 6 hours for the month of January. Doing so will earn your child a free ticket to Great America among other great things! If you need an extra reading calendar for January, please let me know so that I can get one for your child. In the mean-time, please continue to record your child's reading each night. I am so impressed when I hear many students tell me that they read every night!
Winter Recess Reminders
Please remember to dress your child appropriately for school each day. We will go outside for recess unless it is too cold or there is inclement weather. Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with a warm hat, gloves, and coat. If there is snow on the ground, your child will need both boots and snow pants in order to play in the snow.
Some winter recess rules include:
No playing on ice
Stay out of the neighbors' yards.
You must have boots and snow pants to play in the snow.
If your child has a restriction for recess from a doctor, please be sure to contact the school nurse.
Our class recently created a graph that indicated that our favorite season was winter. I'm sure they are looking forward to recess in the snow. Please be sure that your child is prepared each day!
Upcoming Events for Winter 2012
Our final class party for Valentines Day will be held on Tuesday, February 14th. Jump Rope for Heart will also take place that same week! The Daddy Daughter Dance will be on Friday, February 24th. What a great experience for Dads and Daughters! I'm looking forward to the fun and exciting things we will get to experience and learn about for the second part of our school year!
