Awesome!Awesome!Awesome!
We have awesome fieldtrips in 5th grade.

In the fall we go to the Challenger Space Center.  It is an amazing hands-on experience for children.  The kids get to experience what it is like to work in a mission control center and the space station associated with mission control.  Each child is assigned a specific job.  All the jobs work together on tasks with one goal. The goal is to find information about a comet.  The students encounter some difficulties as well as some successes.  It is a wonderful experience.  This space center was developed by the families of the astronauts involved with the Challenger Space Shuttle.

In the spring we head back in time to Sholes School one room schoolhouse.  We study this time period through literature and practice.  The Laura Ingalls Wilder series is an outstanding way to lead kids to the feelings and life of long ago.  When it comes time for the trip, students are to dress the part and take the role of students in that time.  We not only experience the schoolhouse, but we tour and learn about the Durant-Peterson home. It is amazing to see the students participate and role play throughout the day.  What an outstanding opportunity!
