Dear Parents,

Spring is finally here, and things are heating up around here!  The dinosaur projects were a huge success!! They looked amazing displayed at the Academic Fair!   We hope you enjoyed them too!!  Thank you for all the support in making the dinosaurs!!

With the dinosaur unit being extinct and we have been immersed in several book units.  We are currently reading a few books from the Nate the Great and the Amelia Bedelia series.  We also enjoyed reading and analyzing fables and folktales.

Our field trip to see Disney's Chimpanzee was a huge success!! The children were awesome audience members!! We enjoyed learning about the African rainforest habitat and the unique chimpanzees that live there!

We have started a health unit about Nutrition and we need your help... Could you please help your child bring in one old magazine or grocery store advertisement by May 21st?  We will be cutting out food photos to use for one of our projects.   Throughout the unit, the children will be learning the importance of eating right and how healthy food and exercise help them grow big and strong!

In Math, we just finished a mini unit about geometry and we are now learning about estimating fractions and practicing counting money.  We also keep reviewing the basic addition and subtraction facts.  Keep up the great work at home with the basic math practice!!

The ABC Countdown has been a blast!! We will keep counting down until the end of the year!!  Thank you for your support with this fun activity!

Remember Field Day will be May 17th.  Please have your child wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle to school. Please label the bottle so children can easily spot their water.  They may also want to bring a beach towel to sit on during our picnic lunch outside! Our 2nd grade color is YELLOW so please send your child to school wearing yellow and PTO will be giving us all blue bandana's to show our ALES school spirit! Thank you PTO!!

On May 18th, we will be meeting with our 4th grade Buddies for the final time.  Please have your child bring a small snack to share with their buddy! This day is also an early release day.

The last day of school, May 23rd is beach day and an early release.  Your child may bring a beach towel, sun hat, glasses, and wear beach attire.  No bathing suits please.

Also, remember to turn in your May reading calendar.  Every child who returns it the last day of school will earn a special prize!!  Also be watching for information coming home about Mrs. Ryan's summer reading incentive!!

Thank you again for your continual support throughout the year!  We have had an awesome year and I have enjoyed watching every child mature and grow!

Thank you for all of your support!!
