About Me:
I am very excited about this school year! This is my 7th year teaching 3rd and 4th grade self-contained at Algonquin Lakes Elementary School. I graduated from Northern Illinois University and I am a learning and behavior specialist. I have always had a passion for working with children. Before I began teaching, I spent time babysitting, being a nanny and tutoring all ages from kindergarten through college. Outside of the classroom I enjoy reading, cooking, playing games, shopping traveling and spending time with my husband, family and friends. During breaks from school, I frequently travel to Florida to spend time with my family.
About My Classroom:
This year we are starting with 11 students in our 3rd and 4th grade class. We are fortunate to have an outstanding paraprofessional, Miss Stark, to assist in providing a strong learning environment for all students. Through daily lessons, frequent practice, differentiated instruction, positive reinforcement and consistent high expectations, children are given the tools to be academically and socially successful. Students will be improving their reading, math and language arts skills in large groups, small groups or individually based on their abilities. Science and Social Studies concepts will be integrated into reading, writing and math lessons. Speech and language services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, adapted physical education and social work services will be scheduled for individual students based upon their IEP.
Inside the classroom you will find a student library with a wide range of reading materials where every student can find a "good fit" book. Students have personal space at their desk, and share several small and whole group learning spaces. We have 2 student computers, a television, a dvd/vhs player and a SMARTBOARD! The Smartboard is a highly engaging teaching tool that can be used to teach and reinforce any lesson in every subject area from math to social skills. We are extremely fortunate to have a Smartboard mounted in our classroom for daily use!

Each year, I like to try new things and make some improvements in the classroom. This year our classroom incentive will be a whole class game called "Tracopoly". This game follows rules similar to Monopoly. During the day, students will get the opportunity to roll the dice twice. In the morning, students will be able to roll the dice if they come to school on time with completed assignments. In the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to play if their behavior has stayed on green. Upon landing on a square, students can earn classroom money, pick a chance card or a treasure box card. Tracopoly money can be used once a month on classroom items, special passes and prizes.
