PRACTICING
Practice is very important for the beginning orchestra student. It is better to do several short sessions rather than practice for an hour at a time since we are training muscles to do new tasks. Every student is encouraged to practice for 100 minutes a week. That is only twenty minutes five days. Students will soon have a practice record in the front of their Artistry in Strings book. Please encourage your student to fill out the record each week.
PRACTICING TIPS FOR THE STUDENT
1. Try to set a regular time for practice that does not take you, the student, away from your favorite or required activities. Perhaps just before or just after supper would be an ideal time.
2. Quality of practice time is more important than quantity.
3. Make use of a music stand so you can easily read the music and still keep good posture.
4. Start by checking your bow hold and instrument position.
Give a concert for your family to show what you have learned!
