Biographical Information: 

 Dr. Cheryl M. Crates has been the Chief Financial Officer for District 300 in Carpentersville, Illinois since July 2004.  The District is a rapidly growing one of over 20,000 students has 27 schools with a Budget of over $160 million.  She retired as the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Business Services for Madison School District in Phoenix, Arizona, in the summer of 2001 after 15 years of service.  Madison is an urban district of over 5,000 students and has seven schools with a budget of $22 million.  She has taught School Finance and Business Management for over twenty seven years at Northern Illinois University, Northern Arizona University and Arizona State.

Dr. Crates previously worked as Business Manager in Osborn School District in Phoenix, and Lake Zurich Unified District and North Chicago High School District in Illinois.

Cheryl received her Doctorate and Masters in Educational Administration form Northern Illinois University.  She has been in the education field for the past 30 years, splitting her time as a teacher and administrator.

Her teaching career started as a Junior High Math/P.E. teacher and coach in rural Kansas, continued as a fifth grade teacher/reading coordinator .

Dr. Crates has been active in church and professional organizations throughout her career and has been selected as "Outstanding School Business Administrator" for the State of Arizona.  She has been intricately involved in forming organizations of a professional nature over the years, including Illinois Women Administrators; Arizona AWARE (an organization that promoted women in Administration); UNITE (formerly CIMS USA a national users organization of  school districts' administrative software; ASCUS ( an Arizona  school administrative software group); Arizona Risk Retention Trust ( a pooling of property/liability insurance for school districts in Arizona) and ASHIP ( a Medicaid claiming  pool  that provides for administration of Medicaid claims for school districts in Arizona).
