Third grade students will apply reading strategies and skills to gain knowledge; use word analysis when reading and writing; write multi-paragraph essays; and maintain reciprocal discourse in speaking and listening.
LA.3:1 Word Study Students will use word analysis strategies to identify grade appropriate words and their meanings. LA.3:2 Comprehension Students will modify predictions as they read. LA.3:3 Comprehension Students will select appropriate self-monitoring techniques and demonstrate fluency when reading independently previewed age-appropriate material. LA.3:4 Comprehension Students will organize nonfiction information to enhance comprehension. LA.3:5 Comprehension Students will use information from their reading to demonstrate higher-level thinking skills. LA.3:6 Comprehension Students will select appropriate comprehension strategies and skills to understand text. LA.3:7 Literature Students will identify and analyze various genres and read functional text. LA.3:8 Literature Students will differentiate patterns and devices used in poetry. LA.3:9 Conventions Students will edit complete sentences for subject/verb agreement and correct punctuation. LA.3:10 Writing Process Students will use the stages of the writing process to develop paragraphs with focus, organization, elaboration, and integration. LA.3.11 Writing Purpose Students will write for a variety of purposes with a focus on expository composition. LA.3:12 Listening Students will listen and respond to auditorily based media. LA.3:13 Speaking Students will determine the purpose of the oral report and elaborate upon the main points. LA.3:14 Speaking Students will respond appropriately to social situations. LA.3:15 Speaking Students will respond appropriately to conflict as modeled in classroom setting. LA.3:16 Information Literacy Students will analyze information gathered to prepare and present a project.
