Focus Statement: Second grade students will use the scientific method to analyze and differentiate the characteristics of the world's biomes, the classes of vertebrates, and how both have changed over time. The students will also analyze and identify properties of matter and forms of energy.
S.2:1 Animals
Students will identify the characteristics of animals in order to differentiate the five classes of vertebrates.
S.2:2 Living Things and their Environments
Students will analyze and compare the characteristics of the following biomes: wetlands, grasslands, desert, coniferous forest, deciduous forest, and tropical rain forest.
S.2:3 Energy in Motion
Students will define and analyze matter and energy to determine its properties and forms.
S.2:4 Health/Human Body
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of nutrition, exercise, and rest to the functions of the human body.
