Focus Statement: Fifth grade students will use the scientific method to analyze the ecosystem and structure of the Earth to determine its properties and composition. Students will also use the scientific method to examine and describe the structure and functions of the human body systems and the properties of light and sound.

Students will analyze the forces to determine how they have changed the structure of Earth and determine the properties and composition of Earth's materials.

S.5:2 Human Body/Skeletal and Muscular Systems

Students will examine and describe the structure and functions of the human skeletal and muscular systems.

S.5:3 Human Body/Digestive System

Students will examine the structure and function of the digestive system and explain the importance of nutrition to the human body.

S.5:4 Human Body/Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

Students will examine and describe the structure and functions of the human circulatory and respiratory systems.

S.5:5 Human Body/Reproductive System

Students will examine and describe the structure and function of the human reproductive system and the changes that will take place during puberty.

Students will examine and describe the structure and functions of the human nervous system.

S.5:7 Sound and Hearing

Students will characterize sound and how it travels.
