A Message from Superintendent Fred Heid Regarding the PARCC Exam

In February, District 300 provided families with an update on state level assessments scheduled for April and May. District 300 will use these assessment results in combination with classroom level performance to determine individual, school, and district needs for growth, proficiency, and advancement.

This will be the second year that PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) will be administered to students in grades three through eight and current high school students enrolled in Algebra and English 9.  While the assessment remains specific to English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, there are three major changes to be aware of that we believe are positive for students and staff:

  • Change #1: Reduced Test Time and Test Sessions: In Spring 2015, PARCC was broken up into two separate test windows (Performance-based Assessment and End of Year Assessment).  PARCC now has only one test window with less test sessions and less time spent on testing.  Below is a summary of these changes:

Both PARCC and the Illinois Science Assessment will be administered online; schools are in the process of familiarizing students with the format and tools.
