Jacobs Sophomore Aida Frey Named to District 300 Blue Ribbon Society

On February 14, 2017, Superintendent Fred Heid and the District 300 Board of Education presented Jacobs sophomore Aida Frey with membership into D300's Blue Ribbon Society.

The Blue Ribbon Society acknowledges individuals who demonstrate admirable qualities while striving to achieve District 300’s Central Mission: to ensure all students are college or career ready upon graduation.

When Aida Frey was 9 years old, she visited Effigy Mounds National Monument in Harpers Ferry, Iowa.  This was Aida’s first trip to a National Park. When her parents, Shawn and Norma, saw the excitement Aida had in the park, they decided to continue traveling to new ones. Over the last six years, Aida has visited over 250 National Parks.

The U.S. National Park Service includes more than 412 national parks, monuments, battlefields, seashores and other areas. In a recent newspaper interview, Aida told the Charlotte Observer that her goal is to visit all 412 National Park Service sites and, one day, to become the organization’s director.

In 2015, five years after her first National Park visit, Effigy Mounds National Monument declared an “Aida Frey Day” on April 18, in recognition of “Aida’s enthusiastic and tireless promotion of the National Park Service Junior Ranger Program.”

Aida is now the most decorated National Parks junior ranger in the nation.

In 2016, Aida published a book called, America, Can I have Your Autograph? The book contains Aida’s travel diaries, where she shares delightful stories from her fun-filled National Park Tours.
