Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
An exciting new support program was started this week (Feb. 4) in District 300 called GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN. In Illinois, over 200,000 children under the age of 18 are living in a grandparent-headed home. More than 100,000 grandparents are caring for their grandchildren. D300 recognizes and would like to assist those grandparents who are actively parenting students in our schools.
A district committee is being formed to help senior citizens connect and provide them with valuable resources that can help them in their efforts. To volunteer, or for more information, please contact Dr. Joan McGarry at 847.551.8489, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren committee will hold meetings open to the public on the following dates: Thursday, March 14; Thursday, April 11; and Thursday, May 9. All meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor Media Center Annex at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville. A light dinner will be served, and childcare will be available.
