February is Black History Month, and District 300 students, families and staff of all backgrounds are celebrating and learning about its significance.

Over 50 students from all three D300 high schools (Dundee-Crown, Hampshire, and Jacobs) spent their day off on Monday, Feb. 18 (Presidents’ Day), on a field trip to the DuSable Museum of African-American History in Chicago.  The special outing was organized by the D300 African-American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) in partnership with D300 Administration.

It was the fulfillment of a dream –  the latest chapter in the unfolding story of the new Hampshire High School.  It was simultaneously a tribute to the past, celebration of the present, and bellwether of the future.  It was, in a word, inspiring.

A larger-than-life mural was unveiled Monday morning (Feb. 11) at Hampshire High School as a special gift from the Class of 2013.  Click here to see photos of the big reveal.

We're glad you're here!  Whether or not you currently have children in our schools, here you will find links to important information for learning about and getting involved in D300.

An exciting new support program was started this week (Feb. 4) in District 300 called GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN.  In Illinois, over 200,000 children under the age of 18 are living in a grandparent-headed home.  More than 100,000 grandparents are caring for their grandchildren.  D300 recognizes and would like to assist those grandparents who are actively parenting students in our schools.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (Jan. 29, 2013) —The 2013 Community College Futures Assembly has announced the winners of the 19th annual Bellwether Awards at its annual policy summit.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) issued the following statement on January 24 regarding important changes to the assessment (testing) system in Illinois.  The state is indicating that new “cut scores” for the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) will raise expectations, better align with the more rigorous Common Core State Standards, and pave the way for tougher assessments in the 2014-2015 school year.  Please read the following closely, and look for additional information from the district in the coming months.

The public is welcome to attend; performances are from 6 to 9 p.m. The festival will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at Westfield Community School, located at 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road in Algonquin. D300 piano students in grades 3-12 can register.
