An exciting new support program was started this week (Feb. 4) in District 300 called GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN.  In Illinois, over 200,000 children under the age of 18 are living in a grandparent-headed home.  More than 100,000 grandparents are caring for their grandchildren.  D300 recognizes and would like to assist those grandparents who are actively parenting students in our schools.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (Jan. 29, 2013) —The 2013 Community College Futures Assembly has announced the winners of the 19th annual Bellwether Awards at its annual policy summit.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) issued the following statement on January 24 regarding important changes to the assessment (testing) system in Illinois.  The state is indicating that new “cut scores” for the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) will raise expectations, better align with the more rigorous Common Core State Standards, and pave the way for tougher assessments in the 2014-2015 school year.  Please read the following closely, and look for additional information from the district in the coming months.

The public is welcome to attend; performances are from 6 to 9 p.m. The festival will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at Westfield Community School, located at 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road in Algonquin. D300 piano students in grades 3-12 can register.

District 300 administrators are recommending against an increase to student fees for the 2013-2014 school year.

D300 leaders have not raised any of the required student fees since 2005-2006.  At last night’s School Board meeting, administrators said their recommendation to continue the fee freeze next year was intended to avoid putting an additional burden on District 300 families, and many of the Board members agreed.

The School Board will vote on the fee freeze at the next Board meeting later this month.

District 300 students, parents, staff, and community members are encouraged to attend a public forum that will be held in January with municipal leaders and state legislators who represent the D300 community.
