The State of Illinois provides “categories” of education funding to school districts, such as transportation, special education, and bilingual education.  The state mandates that the district provide these categorical services but doesn’t adequately or reliably fund them.

Golden Apple, a leader in advancing the teaching profession in Illinois for 28 years, has proudly announced that Hampshire High School Band & Orchestra Teacher Helen Lawrence is a finalist for the 2013 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.  Mrs. Lawrence was selected from a pool of 510 nominations and 215 applicants from throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.

Welcome back from what we hope was a restful and enjoyable break!  Relay For Life of District 300 is coming up 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday-Saturday, April 19-20, inside Hampshire High School, but there's still time to get involved and get inspired!  It’s fun, it’s festive, and it makes a huge difference in the fight against cancer. Hundreds of D300 students, staff, parents, and community members of all ages have already donated or signed up to participate in this district-wide event, which is now in its fifth year.

Join your favorite teachers today (Thursday, Feb. 28) for the 3rd Annual LEAD 300 Blood Drive, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at Westfield Community School: 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road in Algonquin.  Appointments preferred, but walk in's welcome!  Select your slot at and click in the "Warm Hearts Club" box.  (You will need to create a donor account and then sign in.  Find the LEAD blood drive by entering “Algonquin” for the city and “2/28” for the date.) Questions?

February is Black History Month, and District 300 students, families and staff of all backgrounds are celebrating and learning about its significance.

Over 50 students from all three D300 high schools (Dundee-Crown, Hampshire, and Jacobs) spent their day off on Monday, Feb. 18 (Presidents’ Day), on a field trip to the DuSable Museum of African-American History in Chicago.  The special outing was organized by the D300 African-American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) in partnership with D300 Administration.
