Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin November and head into the winter season, I would like to provide some updates and reminders.

Durham Bus Tracker App:

The Durham Bus Tracker App is a useful tool as the weather turns cold and we encounter difficult road conditions. The app is intended to provide “real-time” information regarding your child’s bus location. The app is available in both English and Spanish. If you have not used the app, I encourage you to download it for the winter season.

District 300 Parents/Guardians:

In the event that you are having difficulty in scheduling your Parent-Teacher Conferences through PTC Wizard, here are some items that may assist you:

“DC Fights the Stigma” is hosting a special event on Thursday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Dundee-Crown High School that is free and open to the public. The event features author and speaker Jeff Yalden who will talk with the Dundee-Crown community about mental health topics and how to support students and the community to fight the mental health stigma.

Families and community members are welcome to attend and learn how to support students and the community fight mental health stigmas. 

District 300 invites you to attend the 5th Annual Henry's Thanksgiving Day Hustle 5K & Kids Dash at Marlowe Middle School (9625 Haligus Road, Lake in the Hills) on Thanksgiving morning.

The race benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of Henry Betts, the 5-year-old son of Liberty Elementary teacher and Jacobs High School tennis coach, Jon Betts.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Throughout October, District 300 will highlight the bullying prevention events and activities occurring in our schools.

Hampshire Middle School observed Bully Prevention Day on Monday, October 16th

During Bully Prevention Day, Hampshire Middle School played movies specific to each grade level with scaffolding to provide students with different experiences with anti-bullying lessons.  After watching the videos, students signed the Bully Prevention Pledge.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Throughout October, District 300 will highlight the bullying prevention events and activities occurring in our schools.

Dundee-Crown High School has implemented a “Stomp Out Bullying” campaign and cyber bullying awareness lessons. Next week, Dundee-Crown will launch ‘The 5 Values of the Mental Health Campaign’ that includes units on awareness, anti-stigma, help-seeking, storytelling, and being proactive.

The purpose of “The 5 Values of the Mental Health Campaign” is to:

Beginning in 2018-2019, District 300 will offer an AP Capstone course to sophomore and junior students. AP Capstone replaces a student’s core English class and is an ideal option for students considering Honors or AP English courses.

AP Capstone is a College Board program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges.

AP Capstone cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions.
