Early Release Information for the 2017-2018 School Year

The District 300 calendar for the 2017-2018 school year includes 10 early release days. All District 300 elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools will observe early releases on the same dates: 

  • Friday, September 1, 2017
  • Friday, September 22, 2017
  • Friday, October 27, 2017
  • Friday, November 17, 2017
  • Friday, December 15, 2017
  • Friday, January 19, 2018
  • Friday, February 16, 2018
  • Friday, March 9, 2018
  • Friday, April 20, 2018
  • Friday, May 11, 2018

For Elementary Schools:

On early release days, all elementary schools will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

All elementary students will be dismissed at 11:45am with the exception of students who are scheduled to stay for an after-school program (such as the Boys and Girls Club, Circle of Friends, Park District programs, and the YMCA). Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (walk, drive, bus, pick-up, etc.).

For Middle Schoools: 

On early release days, all middle schools will run from 8:55 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.

All middle school students will be required to leave campus at 1:25 p.m.  Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (walk, drive, bus, pick-up, etc.).

Middle schools will not be holding any after school extra-curricular activities on early release days. This includes the following but not limited to:

  • Interscholastic athletic competitions
  • Athletic practices
  • Intramural practices
  • Clubs and activities
  • Music rehearsals

Extra-curricular activities may be held in the morning of a scheduled early release day.

The coach/sponsor will communicate if students are practicing or meeting the morning of early release days.  

For High Schools:

On early release days, all high schools will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:43 p.m. Students will be required to leave campus at 12:43 p.m.  Travel methods home on early releases are no different than normal school days (walk, drive, bus, pick-up, etc.).

The following guidelines for activities/athletics will be implemented on early release days:

  • Club meetings/activities may be held in the morning on an early release day prior to the start of the official school day. There will not be afternoon club meetings/activities on early release days unless there is an academic competition.
  • Athletic practices may be held in the morning on an early release day prior to the start of the official school day.
  • Afternoon athletic practices may start following 3:00 p.m. on early release days.
  • Only in-season athletes who have a scheduled practice or competition are allowed to stay following early release dismissal time.  Students will be placed in the high school main commons area/lunch area during the early release time to complete homework or study.

The coach/sponsor will communicate expectations for students prior to these early release days.
