To support D300 parents in understanding and overseeing their teenagers’ use of social media, the district has provided the following resources, as published by Connect Safely:

D300 is proud that dozens of our faculty and staff members have established social media pages for appropriately interacting with students and the public in an educational, professional capacity.  However, any D300 staff member who wishes to establish/operate a social media page in a professional capacity (as a representative of his/her classroom, department, team, club, or school) must complete a Social Media Proposal form and have it approved in advance by his/her principal. This form can be obtained through the principal or by contacting

District 300 can be found on social media by searching for CUSD300 (one word).  The district joined Twitter in Summer 2009, Facebook in Spring 2010, and YouTube in Spring 2011. These forums are managed by the D300 Department of Communication Services, which can be reached at The district primarily uses social media to build public support and involvement, raise awareness about major accomplishments within our school system, and provide useful informational sources.

D300 Communication Services staff will make every effort to respond to questions posted to social media within two business days. Your patience is appreciated. You are always welcome to call the district directly at 847.551.8300 with time-sensitive or private questions.

D300 welcomes public contributions to our Facebook and Twitter pages. However, comments must remain on the topic that was posted by the district, and comments may not include any attacks on individual persons. Publicly-contributed content on any district-level social media page is the opinion of the specific author and does not represent D300.  Further, the district is not responsible or liable for the content of any non-district-level social media page, such as a school page, team page, or PTO/booster page.

D300 abides by Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, and the district asks its social media fans to do the same. In particular, please do not post unauthorized commercial solicitations (such as SPAM) onto D300 social media pages; bully, intimidate, or harass any user; post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or that contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence; or do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.

D300 reserves the right, but is not obligated, to block followers/fans or remove their comments on our Facebook or Twitter pages that contain commercial solicitations, are factually erroneous or libelous, are clearly off-topic, or that otherwise violate Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. The District welcomes a healthy two-way dialogue with the CUSD300 community. However, personal insults against any individual -- whether the individual is an employee, student, parent, Board member, or other person -- are strictly prohibited. We strongly encourage all comments to be phrased respectfully, factually and constructively.

As publicized in district newsletters and parent/guardian handbooks, D300 parents/guardians can choose to "opt out" of their child's images being published.  Click here for the Student & Family Privacy Rights form.   By turning in the completed first page ((General Access to Photographs & Videos) of this form to the school secretary, photos and videos of the student will not be published in school/district social media pages, school/district newsletters, school/district websites, and area newspapers.
