WHAT IS RELAY FOR LIFE OF D300?
Students of all ages, parents, faculty, staff and community members throughout District 300 are encouraged to participate in the 4th Annual D300 American Cancer Society Relay For Life. It will be held rain or shine from 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, to 6 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Jacobs High School in Algonquin.
WHAT IS RELAY?
- D300 Relay For Life is NOT run or a race!
- It is an overnight relay-style event.
- Teams of people camp out around a track.
- Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event.
- Food, games and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities to benefit cancer research and services through the American Cancer Society.
- It provides a family-friendly environment for the entire community. All ages are welcome. This year, we are trying to ensure that all D300 schools, including elementary schools, join the fun and experience the tradition.
- Because it's a Relay, you're not required to be there the entire time...but it's so fun, you'll probably find it hard to leave!

Other Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does it cost to participate in Relay For Life? To register a new Relay team there is a $25 fee. This is paid by credit card when a team captain signs up. To join a team there is no charge, ever! This team registration fee will be waived during the week of Relay Kick-Off, February 13-17, 2012.
2. Who receives a Relay For Life Shirt? All volunteers will receive a Relay For Life shirt. For a member of a team (including the captain) to receive a shirt they must raise a minimum of $100.
2B. What if a team collectively pulls their money? If a team decides to do group fundraisers they can turn the money in as a group and receive a number of shirts equal to the funds raised. For example, if a team of ten Relay participants raises $1000 they can each receive a shirt.
3. What time does Relay end? Relay For Life of District 300 will last until 6 a.m. and all participants who fundraise a minimum of $100 are invited to stay until the end. For any participant who does not fundraise $100 you will be asked to leave at 11 p.m. This rule is in effect for many reasons. First, imagine the scenario of all 5800 D300 high school students being told they can sign up and spend the night on campus with their friends without spreading awareness or fundraising for the event. We feel it is important to treat every team equally, student and faculty. If you are a chaperone or adult volunteer this does not affect you. This only applies to those participating on a team.
4. Are elementary and middle schools responsible for their students' presence at the race? No. It is the responsibility of a parent of a K-8 student to make sure they have someone present to chaperone their child if they decide to send their student to the event. If a middle school came together and raised funds that were a part of their teachers' Relay team than we would love for them to come and experience the first part of Relay. Hopefully this will lead the student to Relay once they are in high school. However we select our number of chaperones based on the number of high school students registered and unfortunately can not provide additional chaperones.
